Skincare for the Gym Junkies

Is your face begging for mercy as well as your glutes? Your skin didn’t sign up for this abuse…

As you may know from my socials I’m now a gym gal, and have been for the last couple of years. Dropping 3.5 stone and enjoying my new lifestyle. But of course balancing the fitness with booze and pizza on a weekly basis (sorry not sorry)!

My gym class girls can attest to my distain at the makeup wearers in the gym 😂. I mean number one, I’m well jel of how fabulous people look working out with Saturday night glam makeup, but most importantly number two, I’m shuddering at the fact their makeup will stay on all day and won’t be good for their skin.

So here’s a little run down as to why you should clean your skin after a work out, education without judgement always…

Cleansing your skin after the gym isn’t just about feeling fresh – it’s one of the most important steps in preventing breakouts, irritation and premature ageing. Here’s why it really matters…

Sweat traps bacteria

When you exercise, your pores open and release sweat. That sweat mixes with bacteria, pollution and makeup on the skin. If it’s left sitting there, it creates the perfect environment for breakouts, congestion and inflammation.

Prevents clogged pores and acne

Post-workout skin is warm and more permeable, which means oil, dirt and dead skin cells can sink deeper into pores. This is one of the biggest causes of gym-related breakouts, especially on the chin, jawline, chest and back.

Stops irritation & rashes

Sweat contains salts that dry and irritate the skin if they aren’t removed. This can lead to stinging, redness, itchiness and even heat rashes – particularly around the hairline, neck and under sports bras.

Protects your skin barrier

Leaving sweat on the skin disrupts the natural barrier, making your skin more sensitive and reactive over time. Cleansing restores balance and helps your skin recover faster.

Improves the results of your skincare

Applying serums or moisturisers onto sweaty, dirty skin just pushes impurities further in. Clean skin absorbs your products properly – meaning better hydration, brighter skin and fewer breakouts.

Top tip from clinic…

After a workout, use a gentle but effective cleanser – not wipes. Never ever wipes please. A proper cleanse removes sweat, oil and bacteria without stripping your skin, keeping it calm, clear and healthy.

Then put your makeup back on!
