24 Nov What Is Vein Sclerotherapy?
Vein Sclerotherapy is an injectable treatment specifically created to eliminate or minimise visible veins’ appearance.
Safe and effective though it undoubtedly is, Vein Sclerotherapy is only licensed for on the legs, or at least below the waist. Anyone offering treatment above this area should NOT be doing so.
With that in mind, you’d want to ask yourself what other mistakes or oversights (and yes, downright negligence) are taking place. So you’d also do well to bear in mind that their insurance wouldn’t cover your treatment. But. Enough about charlatans; here you are reading all about US, the enhancement professionals. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin…
We’re all starting to notice those little spider veins or thread veins. In fact, over 30% of us are affected, both men and women.
Ok, so they’re not varicose veins. They’re not a health issue. But they’re unsightly.
Nobody wants to be self-conscious in a dress, on holiday, or at the gym. Nobody wants anything to dent their confidence and self-esteem. And now, with a swift, accessible, simple sclerotherapy treatment, nobody needs to put up with unsightly spider veins any longer.
If only ACTUAL spiders were so easy to deal with! *Shudder*
What ARE Spider Veins and Thread Veins?
Those pesky little thread veins, often known as spider veins, are small but obvious veins of less than 1-2mm in diameter. Usually, they develop and spread out in a formation similar to a spider’s web, just under the skin’s surface. The correct medical term for these unsightly little blighters is telangiectasia, and they are tiny, little blood vessels which have become enlarged or dilated, giving them that red, blue or purple appearance.
So, What is Vein Sclerotherapy and How Does it Work?
Sclerotherapy is the technique devised to treat spider veins or thread veins on the legs, and a popular and exceptionally effective method it is too. The treatment involves injecting a dedicated solution, a sclerosant, into the thread veins. The substance works to shrink them over time, and eventually to eradicate them altogether. The treatment, following a comprehensive consultation, is offered on a walk-in, walk-out basis with little or no downtime.
The sclerosant is injected into the veins using incredibly fine, teeny-tiny needles. It’s an irritant, which causes the walls of the veins to become inflamed or ‘sticky’. Over the next few weeks, the veins close off and simply fade away as the vein walls ‘stick’ together.
Is Vein Sclerotherapy Painful or Risky?
Short answer: no, course not. And you know we’ll go the extra mile to make you comfy anyway. Seriously, though, the needles used to inject the sclerosant are minuscule. In fact, patients often tell us how surprised they are by just how painless the treatment actually is.
As for safety, well you know that’s ALWAYS a priority for us. Sclerotherapy has helped millions of people, over several years. Its safety record is well established, the sclerosant is licensed, and is available on prescription only. At your consultation, we’ll carefully go through your health and medical history as well as your expectations. There are some people for whom sclerotherapy isn’t suitable:
- Pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers.
- Anyone who’s suffered deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
- Those who are allergic to the sclerosants; sodium tetradecyl sulphate.
- Anyone with actively inflamed or infected skin around the treatment area.
- Those with varicose veins might not be good candidates for sclerotherapy. Varicose veins can indicate leaky valves within the larger veins in your legs.
Serious complications are incredibly rare, though some itchiness or mild discomfort is possible.
The Benefits of Vein Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a safe, quick, and relatively simple treatment with excellent, lasting results. The best results are attained usually within 2-4 sessions, but often just one can make all the difference.
- Walk-in, walk-out procedure
- Treatment takes well under an hour
- Minimal discomfort
- Fast healing and recovery time
- Treated veins rarely reappear
- Down time and aftercare are minimal
As with everything we do, a thorough consultation is required before treatment. This will ensure sclerotherapy is right for you and allow us to prepare your prescription.
Enhancements Done Right
And, just to refer back to our opening paragraph, if you DO need some help improving the appearance of thread veins on your face, sclerotherapy is NOT the answer. However, there are things we can do to help.
Many of our patients see fabulous results with chemical peels (which also improve the texture and appearance of the skin generally). Plus, we can help with tailoring a skin care regime using prescribed, high-grade products. Don’t risk your face with anyone who’s prepared to bend and break rules that are there for a reason. That goes for ANY treatments.
